Common wedding planning problems and how to overcome them
Planning your wedding can feel like a whirlwind. You have so much to think about, from your dress to your guests to what food you will serve, not to mention the ceremony itself and the reception venue.
With so much to consider, particularly for a post-pandemic wedding, it’s only normal to encounter one or two problems along the way – speak with any married couple and you’ll soon find that these issues are more common than you may think!
We’re here to help. After all, forewarned is forearmed – and by avoiding and overcoming these issues, hopefully, your wedding planning (and big day!) will go a lot more smoothly.
Invites
Sometimes, it can be useful to hand off little jobs to other members of your wedding party, to avoid you having to do it all yourself. However, you shouldn’t let anyone else decide who to invite to your wedding – not even your parents! Letting them have a say is one thing, but let them take over, and it will quickly get out of hand. Make sure you make it clear that you value input, but that the final decision over who comes to your wedding lies with you.
Timing
With weddings, timing is everything. One of the worst problems you can face when wedding planning is getting closer and closer to the day itself, and realising your dress hasn’t arrived or isn’t ready yet.
While we know choosing your wedding dress is a big decision, try to do it at least eight or nine months before your wedding day. This gives enough time to have it fitted, adjusted, and perfected in time for your day – especially vital if you are having a dress custom made, or if you’re ordering from overseas.
Elopements
Has the stress got to you, or have you just always wanted to elope? If the idea of planning your wedding in your favourite holiday spot appeals, then don’t be fooled into thinking that means you don’t have to do any planning! Making sure your passports are valid, that you have the right legal documents to marry in the country you choose – and that your family won’t be too upset at being left out.
Budget
Budgeting your wedding is a huge part of getting married in a successful and less stressful way. If you blow all your money on your dress or spend more than you planned on wedding flowers, remember that you only have finite resources. Spending too much too quickly could leave you struggling in other departments. The best way to remedy this is to set a budget with reasonable wiggle room. This way you will be more likely to stick to it, and less likely to bicker over cash flow!
Weather
We know that everyone dreams of having perfect bright sunshine on their wedding day, but you need to plan for all weathers. It’s no good showing up to an all-outdoor wedding reception in the pouring rain. Make sure that all of your activities that rely on good weather have some backup options. It never hurts to hire a marquee to race into if the heavens open in July!
