Kors Ta’ Kana / Cana Preparation wedding course

If you are getting married in the Catholic church in Malta then you are required to attend an obligatory course to prepare for your marriage.  This is an obligatory course and it is suggested to attend this course around two years prior to the wedding.

The courses consists of 10 meetings (normally weekly) held during three months of the year: January, April and October.

Where and when are these Courses held?

Marriage Preparation Courses are held in various parishes around Malta three times a year; in January, April and October. You are to book directly with the Parish Church where you will be attending, ideally a month or more in advance.

There is a one-time payment fee of €35 per couple and will award them with a certificate to be submitted to the registry when applying for the Publication of Marriage Bans, along with a second certificate given to the couple at the end of a second set of meetings held closer to the date of the wedding – the Immediate Preparation of Marriage.

The course is delivered in Maltese only during January, but is offered in English during the later months.

What does this Course consist of?

The course consists of ten short and interesting weekly talks / workshops.  Discussions are held in small groups where different opinions can be expressed amongst other couples getting married in a Roman Catholic church.  A leading couple will be present to help throughout the meetings. You will be given a booklet to guide you through these meetings.

The course covers many aspects that married couples could face including:

  • debt and financial control,

  • approaching subjects apt for a life together;

  • the curation of family livelihood;

  • effective communication methods between spouses;

  • the sanctity of marriage,

  • the importance of sacrament – being that you choose to allow God to take witness and guide you into the new life you are about to begin.

Couples who are not marrying under Roman Catholic faith are able to attend the courses as well, as the seemingly serve as a pre-nuptial counselling and preparation service allowing any couple ready to take the leap of faith to soar with confidence.

Immediate Preparation for Marriage

Apart from the above course, closer to the wedding date the couple is to attend a number of meetings organised by the respective parish. At the end the couple will be presented with another certificate. Both certificates are to be submitted upon registration for marriage at the Curia.
