General information

The large entrance hall leads to a majestic staircase that branches off into two. The spacious landing on the first floor leads to the two main reception areas: The Ballroom and the Presidents Room. Beyond the Ballroom lie the Dining Room, overlooking St George’s Square and the smaller Princess Room so named after the visit to the club of Queen Elizabeth II when she was still a princess.

The premises were originally built by the Knights of St John in the 17th century and used as the accounting branch of their Treasury. During the early days of the British rule the remises housed the Chief Secretary’s office, Government Treasury, the British packet office. Later the block was converted into a Hotel, and during the first decade of the century was taken over the Casino Maltese. In fact it was during the late 1800’s when the building was used as a Hotel, called “The Grand Hotel” and later taken over by the Casino Maltese. The first document relating of the foundation of the Casino Maltese refers to the inauguration date of 1st March 1852. However, as regards to the premises it was in 1859 that members moved and made use of the premises.

The club is considered as a living society of prestige, a national institution and forms part of the Malta’s history. Over the years the Club enjoyed the privilege of having welcomed many a distinguished visitor, of these the Queen Elizabeth II, The Duke of Windsor, Emperor Hiroshito of Japan, all of which have been recorded.

The Casino Maltese is a Grade I listed building and its interconnected reception halls on the first floor provide a prestigious setting for a variety of occasions. The elaborate Ballroom with its Murano chandeliers and parquet floor as well as the elegantly decorated Presidents hall are perfect for wedding receptions.

From a photographic point of view the location is beautiful lit in view of the amazing skylight which enters from the rooftop during the day. This coupled with the beautiful views over Valletta main square, makes it an amazing location to consider.

REAL WEDDINGS AT THE VENUE:

A memorable Valletta wedding in a beautiful December day… this is how I would describe the wonderful wedding of Claire and Richard! Everything was so well crafted with all the events happening in Valletta and it was a blast to be always with the couple during the whole day!

The wedding of Vanessa and Andrea was one of those weddings which I believe was splendid from start to finish. The wedding day, decor, vibe and setup of the whole day was completely in line with the personality of the couple - modern, lively and in the moment.
