Above the main door, one can find organ galleries build by benefactors Dun Mikiel Zammit and Dun Gio Anton Spiteri that bears the date 1834.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception is a wayside Roman Catholic chapel located in what is known as Wied Gerżuma or Gerżuma valley, limits of Rabat, Malta.
The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception holds historical significance in Malta. The chapel originated in 1736 on lands owned by the Fondazione Paola which was a foundation that supported the building of sailing boats for the knights. This beautiful little chapel once belonged to the Order of St. John. The property was inherited by the subsequent governments that governed Malta after the expulsion of the order from Malta in 1798. In fact, the chapel is still the property of the state. It stands as a testament to Malta's rich cultural heritage and serves as an important part of the country's history.
One step inside this chapel will transport you back in time. The architecture, adorned with intricate details, creates an atmosphere that is both awe-inspiring and romantic. The chapel has one altar. Above it stands the painting depicting the Immaculate Conception, St Joseph, St Paul, St John the Baptist and St Anthony of Padoua.
The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception has simple architectural features that make it an ideal setting for your wedding ceremony. The front façade showcases exquisite craftsmanship, with intricate carvings and delicate stonework that reflect the skill and artistry of bygone eras.
It has to be said that although the chapel is well maintained and located in a beautiful and quiet area, the chapel is small and can probably hold around 60 people at most.
6. ST CATHERINE’S CHAPEL (TAD-DAHLA) – RABAT
Nestled in the charming town of Rabat, Malta and in a very quiey area St Catherine's Chapel offers a truly enchanting setting for couples looking to tie the knot. As you step through its doors, you will be transported back in time, surrounded by an aura of tranquility and spirituality. The chapel's timeless beauty is evident in its stunning architecture, with its elegant stone façade and intricate details that have stood the test of time.
The chapel is dedicated to St Catherine and was first built close to the year 1500. This chapel was one of the 30 countryside chapels which fell under the auspice of the old capital Mdina and which Mons. Pietro Dusina visited as part of his apostolic visit in 1575. By 1628, a new chapel funded by Indri Vassallo and his wife had replaced the previous one. This second chapel was severely damaged by the earthquake of 1743 and was almost completely rebuilt to the design we can appreciate today.
The chapel is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, a revered figure in Christian tradition known for her wisdom and martyrdom. By choosing this chapel as your wedding venue, you not only embrace your own love story but also become part of a larger narrative that celebrates faith and unity.
The chapel, has been recently restored and very small as you would expect from a rural chapel, and can only have around 20 to 30 people.
7. OUR LADY OF RANSOM CHAPEL, MELLIEHA

The chapel can be found on the left-hand side of the grand entrance to the historic Selmun Palace. This chapel once catered to the spiritual needs of the people of Selmun and the esteemed occupants of the Palace, holds a tale of generosity and compassion that echoes through the annals of time.
Dating back to the 18th century, this Chapel was dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy and bore witness to a remarkable act of kindness. In 1792, a noble soul named Katerina Vitale, mourning the loss of her husband Ettore, made a profound commitment. Fueled by empathy for the plight of slaves captured by corsairs, Katerina pledged her entire wealth to establish a fund, later known as Monte di Pietà, aimed at ransoming these unfortunate souls. Her selfless gesture, supported by the efforts of Capuchin Friars, led to the creation of a perpetual foundation for Mass, ensuring spiritual solace and the repose of the soul of the generous Katerina Vitale. The titular painting of the Chapel, a masterpiece by Antoine Favray, vividly portrays Katerina, on her knees, offering her wealth for the redemption of slaves, a poignant reminder of her enduring legacy.
Over the centuries, this Chapel bore witness to changing times. Eventually, as progress embraced the land, the old Chapel found itself surrounded by the walls of a hotel, no longer serving as a place of worship. However, the spirit of compassion persisted. In 1982, a new chapter unfolded as a modern and meticulously designed Chapel emerged from the toil of many dedicated hands. Under the guidance of Capuchin Friar Patri Serafin Debattista and the architectural vision of Carm Lino Spiteri, the Chapel opened its doors, adorned with the timeless painting of Our Lady of Ransom by Antoine Favray. Work on the new chapel, which was designed by architect Carm. Lino Spiteri, started in October of 1981 and finished by the end of December of the same year . The official opening was held on 19-12-1982. It was blessed by Mons. Carmelo Xuereb, Vigar General.
Today, this Chapel stands not only as a place of worship but also as a testament to the enduring power of kindness, reminding all who enter of the transformative impact one noble gesture can have on generations to come. The chapel can house around 60-70 guests and is therefore reasonably sized for a wedding.
8. OUR LADY OF LORETO CHAPEL - GUDJA
Nestled in the picturesque village of Gudja, in the southern part of Malta, Our Lady of Loreto Chapel offers a truly enchanting setting for couples seeking a romantic venue to exchange their vows. This chapel was built in 1676 as a way of offering thanks after the nearby village of Gudja had escaped largely untouched by the plague that had hit the islands that year.
It was built in the place of an older church that had been previously erected around the medieval hamlet of Casal Qadi, which is a fascinating little fact in itself when you think about it; a place where people called home and for whom it was the world not only no longer exists but is effectively forgotten.
The Loreto chapel’s story took another twist in the Second World War when it was taken over by the military who in turn connected the well that is situated beneath this chapel to a nearby shelter.
Couples seeking an intimate wedding experience will find no better place than Our Lady of Loreto Chapel. The chapel's small size creates an intimate atmosphere, allowing you to share your special day with only your closest family and friends. This exclusivity adds a sense of warmth and closeness, making the ceremony all the more personal.

Nestled in the charming town of San Gwann, the Mensija Chapel offers a truly unique and enchanting setting for couples seeking an unforgettable wedding venue in Malta. If you’re driving towards St. Julian’s from San Ġwann, you’re likely to turn into Sanctuary Street (Triq is-Santwarju). A belfry with the statue of the Archangel Gabriel comes into view in Triq il-Baħar l-Iswed. This church, known as tal-Mensija, gave its name to the surrounding area.
Nestled within the heart of San Ġwann, the Mensija sanctuary boasts a rich history that dates back centuries. Originally a cave utilized by the inhabitants of Mensija as a refuge from corsair invaders, it evolved into an underground grotto church dedicated jointly to the Annunciation and St. Leonard, the patron saint of pirates. The name "Mensija," meaning "the forgotten place," stems from the legend intertwined with the church.
According to the tale, a farmer named Andrea stumbled upon an image of Our Lady hidden within the cave, sparking a series of miraculous events. Despite attempts to relocate the image, it mysteriously returned, leading to the construction of an altar. Over time, Mensija became a pilgrimage site, with the faithful flocking from far and wide. The church's resilience through closures and renovations speaks to the enduring faith of the community.
The sanctuary itself is a troglodyte church, accessed via a forty-step staircase and adorned with magnificent stone statues representing apostles and Our Lady of Lourdes. Inside, the original cave chapel and two altars, dedicated to Our Lady and Christ the Saviour, stand testament to the enduring spiritual significance of the site. The church's history intertwines with that of Castello Lanzun, an imposing tower that once served as a farmhouse and a refuge from corsair attacks. Today, the restored structure stands proudly, surrounded by vibrant oleander shrubs. The Mensija sanctuary stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith, offering a glimpse into Malta's fascinating troglodyte church heritage, where caves were transformed into places of worship by early Christians, embodying the entombment and resurrection of Jesus Christ in symbolic significance. The site's historical richness, combined with the deep devotion of its visitors, creates an atmosphere of reverence and wonder, making it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and spiritual seekers alike.
The chapel can house around 50 people and therefore would be good enough for an intimate wedding.
10. HOLY FAMILY OF NAZARETH CHAPEL - BIDNIJA
If you're looking for a distinctive wedding venue in Malta, the Holy Family of Nazareth Chapel located in Bidnija is definitely worth exploring. Nestled within the idyllic landscapes of Bidnija, one of Malta's smallest villages, the Bidnija Chapel stands as a testament to both architectural beauty and community devotion. Home to just over three hundred residents, Bidnija is a quaint village surrounded by the natural splendor of Qannotta Valley and Pwales Valley. Apart from its serene countryside, Bidnija offers a range of attractions, including horse riding facilities, a clay pigeon shooting club, and a renowned Maltese restaurant famous for its traditional rabbit stew. However, among these gems, the Bidnija Chapel shines as a true gem of the village.
Constructed in 1920, the Bidnija Chapel was a labor of love, built over two years by the villagers themselves. Guided by the skilled hands of master mason Salvu Zahra, the church's architecture exudes a sense of historical charm. Inside, the chapel is adorned with exquisite artworks, including paintings by the local artist Ġanni Vella and a beautiful titular statue of the Holy Family, created by the talented sculptor Wistin Camilleri. These artistic treasures not only enhance the chapel's interior but also reflect the deep spiritual heritage of the village.
Bidnija's history stretches back thousands of years, as evidenced by nearby Roman remains and ancient cart ruts. The village itself derived its name from the ancient 'Bidni olive trees' grove, which has stood for millennia and is now a protected area. Additionally, during World War II, Bidnija played a crucial role, providing shelter for British soldiers in its small rooms and war shelters scattered throughout the village.
In 2019, recognizing the historical and cultural significance of the Bidnija Chapel, a comprehensive restoration project was undertaken. With an investment of around €85,000, co-financed by European funds, the church was meticulously restored. The restoration efforts focused on the façade, bell tower, and churchyard, enhancing accessibility for individuals with diverse abilities. This project not only preserves the architectural heritage of Bidnija but also ensures that the chapel remains a beacon of spirituality and community for generations to come.
The Bidnija chapel can host around 40 people inside - so my be best used for an intimate wedding in Malta.
11. OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS CHURCH (TAS-SILG) - MARSAXLOKK
If you're dreaming of a wedding that combines grandeur, historical importance, and stunning architecture, look no further than Our Lady of the Snows Church in Marsaxlokk. This iconic church offers a majestic setting overlooking the seaview, making it an ideal choice for couples seeking a truly memorable venue.
Our Lady of the Snows Church holds significant historical importance in Malta. Built in the 17th century, this magnificent church stands as a testament to Malta's rich past. The Church of Our Lady of the Snow at Marsaxlokk is situated at the southern end of Malta. Both the churh and the palace nearby were donated to the Discalced Carmelites in 1933 by the Marquis Lorenzo Testaferrata and his sister Carmela Testaferrata Bonici. The friars built their monastery between the two buildings so that they now comprise one edifice.
In 1986 the lower storey was refurbished to accommodate retreats on the premises. This work has now been extended throughout the building and the entire monastery and palace are now used as a House of Prayer for many groups and individuals who spend quality time in retreat and spiritual renewal.
