The wedding of Serena and Dillan here in Malta was last week and what a blast! In this first post I share the highlights from the first two days of the Mehdni, welcome party and Pithi. For these events, the locations chosen where Villa Arrigo and Westin.
For those who are not aware, the Mehndi and Sangeet parties are vibrant pre-wedding celebrations in Indian culture. The Mehndi party is centered around the application of intricate henna designs on the bride's hands and feet, symbolizing joy and beauty. This gathering often includes close family and friends, music, dance, and traditional food. During the Sangeet (which is a festive event filled with musical performances, dancing, and singing) both the bride's and groom's families come together to celebrate with joy and anticipation. These events are characterized by their lively atmosphere, colorful attire, and cultural rituals, creating cherished memories for the couple and their loved ones.
On the other hand, the Pithi ceremony is a traditional Indian pre-wedding ritual imbued with cultural significance and joyous celebration. During this ceremony, a special paste made from turmeric, chickpea flour, rose water, and other ingredients is applied to the bride and groom's skin. This paste is believed to purify, soften, and brighten their skin, preparing them for the wedding day. It is filled with singing, laughter, and blessings, as relatives take turns applying the paste while offering their good wishes. This ritual not only enhances the physical glow of the couple but also symbolizes the blessings and love showered upon them by their families.
