The idea for this article comes after that last week I had a meeting with an international luxury wedding planner and we were discussing together potential venue locations in Malta for luxurious and high end weddings in Malta. After going through the thinking process with this dear colleague, I decided to share my thoughts on such luxurious locations in Malta which could be converted as the perfect backdrop for your wedding day.

Located on the southern coastal village of Kalkara, Villa Bighi is one of the finest examples of 17th Century neo-classical architecture on the Islands. It has been a focal point in the historical development of the Maltese Islands, due to its ample size for ships to enter and moor as well as it’s geographical importance in the middle of the Mediterranean.
The 17th century neo-classical Villa Bighi is located in the Malta’s South Eastern village of Kalkara, which forms part of the inner harbour area. The village was named after the Latin word for lime (Calce), due to the lime kiln in the area which is thought to date back to Roman times.
The newly re-purposed Villa Bighi features a number of reception halls as well as indoor and outdoor areas which can cater for a wide range of group sizes. 5. The Phoenicia Hotel
The Phoenicia hotel, is an iconic hotel which is surrounded by gorgeous landscaped gardens and located just outside the vibrant capital of Valletta on the edge of the city’s 16th Century bastions. The Phoenicia Malta can be considered as a national treasure and has a variety of classically refined interiors, alongside fresh outdoor spaces.
The hotel used to be named the Le Méridien Phoenicia, and has an Art Deco style. The hotel was built in the 1930s, and was opened in November 1947. Throughout the years, the Phoenicia has hosted a number of distinguished guests, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Edwina Mountbatten, Alec Guinness, Jeffrey Hunter, Gérard Depardieu, Oliver Reed, Derek Jacobi, Joaquin Phoenix and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

THE BASTION POOL - Once you pass through the landscaped gardens, you can arrive to the edge of the gardens where you pass through the twinkling lights sparkle in the bougainvillea arches to enter the area overlooking Marsamxett Harbour. The Pool area is built over the Historic bastion walls and has an Infinity pool. There is also a separate entrance to this venue location, if required.
THE ROTUNDA - The Rotunda is surrounded by evergreen lawns and historic charm and has an art deco fountain. The Rotunda also has a separate event entrance and a historical backdrop.

The Westin Dragonara Resort is named after Dragonara Point on which it is built. According to local legend, the area is named after a dragon who lived in caves in the peninsula. Although the caves can be explored today, any fire breathing old dragons are apparently extinct and replaced by the sparkling Westin Dragonara Resort.
